A very interesting story in yesterday’s Wall Street Journal about retiring trainer Gene Monahan shows how far athletic training has advanced while some things remain constant.
The story, titled “The Trainer Hangs Up His Tape“, folows the career of Monahan, the Yankee’s longest tenured employee, through his career of keeping the Yanks on the field.
As the head trainer since 1973, Monahan has seen baseball training develop from one guy who started as a bat boy to the state of things today where the team travels with a truck full of training equipment, a staff that includes doctors and physical therapists.
