The theory is that by the time the ice thaws, the impulse will have passed.

This leads me to a tip posted in Lifehacker last week, recommending that you keep a little duct tape handy by wrapping it around an old gift card or credit card.

Here’s our recommendation.  Wrap the duct tape around the credit card you use for impulse purchases instead.  By the time you are able to read the card, your craving for that new pair of shoes might just have passed!
