It’s time for the summer cardboard boat races in Des Moines, IA and if this year is like races in years past, the team with the best taping job is likely to cross the finish line first.
The Des Moines races are part of the Great Cardboard Boat Regatta, founded in 1974 and there are three races scheduled in Des Moines this summer, just part of over 100 regattas scheduled for the summer.
According to race director Robin Leaper, the most important factor after a good job of duct taping your boat is speed, since cardboard boats don’t last for long in the water.
