Mark Savage, a British chimney sweep, says that gaffers tape is an integral part of the modern sweep’s tool kit.
Savage uses the sticky stuff to install a “soot sheet”, a large plastic tarp that will protect the customers carpet from whatever might fall down the chimney.
Savage warns against using the “cheap stuff”, having found that some tape products do not have an aggressive enough adhesive to stick to rough surfaces like brick.
